A topical neuropeptide that reduces expression lines by relaxing neuromuscular contractions.
Snap-8 is an 8-amino-acid peptide competing with SNAP-25 protein for inclusion in the SNARE complex. By blocking SNARE complex formation it reduces vesicle fusion at the neuromuscular junction, decreasing acetylcholine release and relaxing facial muscle contractions that cause dynamic expression wrinkles.
Snap-8 is often described as a topical alternative to botulinum toxin — it targets the same SNARE machinery but through competitive inhibition rather than enzymatic cleavage, and at much lower concentrations.
Clinical cosmetic studies show modest but measurable reductions in expression line depth with consistent topical application over 28 days. It is most effective in formulations that maximise skin penetration.
